The usual *bare* minimum to make your course happen would be at least a few months - the exact numbers, of course, would depend on the time on your hands, your existing skills and experiences and ability to truly deep-dive into the process if you choose to do so.

However, realistically, I often see this timeline being expanded for way too long.

From "I'll launch in March!" that turns into June... And then it's summertime - who cares for launching then... And the busy September comes... Within a blink you're fast-speed approaching Holiday season and now your course is postponed to be launched next year...

2023 turned into 2024 and now 2024 is turning into 2025 which - fingers crossed - finally will be YOUR year.

Fun fact, most course ideas will never see the daylight.

I've been in the course space for a decade and have worked with plenty of creators who had the best intention of launching their product.

Until they didn't...

Why though? The idea was there and often - very close to the finish line. What stopped them from making the final push?

🙃 REASON 1: PERFECTIONISM KICKED IN

They got into overthinking mode, feeling like the product is *not there just yet* and so there was a whole another pile of to-do's and re-do's which leads us to the next point...

🫠 REASON 2: IT BECAME TOO OVERWHELMING

As the launch date approached, they started to feel overwhelmed with everything that was still yet to be done or the new things on their to-do list because of the reason no.1

🥹 REASON 3: THEY STARTED OVERTHINKING IT ALL

Is this really worth it? What's the point? Is my content good enough? Who will buy? What if I spend all this time and nobody signs up?

But all of these reasons have one thing incommon - it's always a mindset issue. It's not the product or the bigger vision that is stopping you...

When ChatGPT came around, I was very slow to catch up as authentic content have always been one of my core values and this felt like cheating.

But there are so many great ways how you can use AI tools while still generating all of your core content yourself.

Here are just some of the ideas.

👉 Get help when brainstorming

Prompt: I'd love to create a course about [this topic], focused on helping [this audience]. My experience is focused on [specific situations like] and I'd like my audience to [reach this goal] by the end of this project.

👉 Ask ChatGPT to organize your ideas

Prompt: I have a course idea about [the topic] and I'd like to include questions and insights like [a list]. Organize these ideas into logical curriculum and add your suggestions for any missing content.

👉 Ask for outlines to cover

Prompt: I am about to write my course lesson about [topic]. What would be your suggested outline, keeping in mind [this goal] and [this audience].

👉 Ask for feedback (my favorite!)

Once you've written a lesson, a sales page or email, you can use ChatGPT as your sounding board and ask for feedback.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING when working with ChatGPT is to always give it more specific details. If the answer is vague, ask it to redo it, adding more guidance 💃

Zoom in on who is your audience, how you want to help, what is your experience and your vibe.

Not all the answers will be the best way to go but they can serve as a great dose of inspiration or a starting point for your course creation.

Not sure if your course idea is heading in the right direction?

Creating a course can feel like a lot of undertaking and it's easy to start procrastinating on your idea if you find yourself uncertain about its direction.

So how to be SURE that this is the path you want to take? This is THE idea to work on?

Here are some questions I'd start with -

👉 Do you LOVE the idea yourself or are you creating based on the demand ONLY?

It's important to tap into what your audience wants from you BUT if you're not so into the idea yourself, it will be a lot harder to create and sell your offers.

If your intuition is telling you to reconsider, take a step back and see what else is out there.

👉 Are you worried about the concept? Uncertain if it will sell?

Start by testing out your idea on a smaller scale!

Create a relevant Masterclass or a mini course - use it as a lower-priced into product that will show you the interest in the topic and this type of support.

👉 Not sure if course is the right format for you?

Consider if a different path might be more suitable: a membership? Group program? 1:1 Voxer support with just some video guidance? You can also combine your course with various types of support/access.

Consider what will make the biggest difference for your audience?

👉 Are you worried about wasting your time without the expected return?

Consider starting with a pre-sale where you offer spots to your product before you start actively recording it (it might not always be the best way to go though!)

And also keep in mind - your course later can be sold in MANY different offers so it's never really a waste of time...

👉 MISTAKE NO.1 Creating a course without any audience

Can you create a profitable course without any audience? Yes and no.

However, having at least some pre-existing online audience in your socials and/or mailing list can help you A TON.

👉 MISTAKE NO.2 Being afraid to show up

My first course was a PDF download.

But even after I learned from that mistake, it took me SO LONG to start showing up to my audience in a meaningful way.

Video content is a thing, y'all. And even if you don't want to show up in your course videos, it's still important that you have a chance to build that trust with your audience before they buy.

👉 MISTAKE NO.3 Overthinking my content

SO MANY HOURS have been spent overthinking the smallest things that ultimately didn't matter.

Focus on figuring out what will be the easiest way for you to provide the content and do thatttttt..

👉 MISTAKE NO.4 Changing my platforms way too often...

The platform you're on will not make or break your sales.

👉 MISTAKE NO.5 Giving in on the shiny object syndrome

If there's ONE thing I've truly learned over a decade - it's to resist the shiny object syndrome as much as possible.

I LOVE jumping in on new ideas, the dopamine hit I get when I start outlinging a new offer or creating a new landing page is another level.

But the truth is - you have to give things TIME to see results.
