As a course creator with almost 10 years of experience, the list of reasons to create an online course could be neverending. But this time, let’s take a look at just some of the reasons why adding a course to your offer suite could be a great idea!
I think one of the most important things to remember when it comes to online courses is that – your course is YOURS.
You have an absolute freedom to create, set up and sell it in a way that works for your vision.
This means that if you have a specific purpose in mind how your course could serve your audience – go for it! There is no “one size fits all” solution.
7 reasons to create an online course
Expand beyond your 1:1 offers
The first one of the reasons to create an online course might be the most obvious one (besides making $$$).
And that is the chance to expand beyond your 1:1 offers.
Your 1:1 capacity is limited to the hours of your day and your energy levels but there are always so many more opportunities to serve your audience and creating an online course is a great way to do that, beyond your 1:1.
This is especially true if you want to serve audience beyond your borders or even stateline.
Serve those who can’t afford your 1:1’s
There might be people in your audience who are not and never might be able to enroll in your high-end done-for-you support or 1:1 offers of any kind.
By creating a digital product you can provide them the opportunity to still learn from you at a much lower price point that can often be a lot more accessible.
For many, enrolling in the course can also serve as the first-step into getting to know you before they’re ready to invest in the high-end 1:1 offers.
Serve different levels of your audience
Your hands-on clients might be on a specific journey where they need your exact help. But a course can serve those clients either before or after working with you, or as they’re exploring the specific topic on their own, without seeking personalized help.
Not everyone is seeking 1:1 support and many people will prefer to learn specific things on their own, in their own timeline.
Besides that, some topics can be specifically easier to learn in a course setting, as your students can go through the same info over and over again.
Have an easy access point for your first-time audience
Imagine someone surfing through your Instagram and wanting to learn from you NOW. They might not be ready to invest in a high-end support just yet or they seek instant gratification – give your audience a product to enroll in right away.
This can be a smaller starter offer – like a mini course – that guides them through some of the key things to learn BEFORE they’d work with you.
But it can also be a bigger self-paced course if it makes sense for your customer journey.
Diversify your income
This probably should have been on top of the list… Creating a course (or a few!) can be an amazing way to diversify your online income. Stop relying on your clients only.
Having course income have helped me to take extendend – and often unplanned – vacations, to spend more time offline and just enjoy some unexpected extras of life.
Diversifying is always the way to go and creating your own course can be a great first step!
Set up passive funnels
This also leads us to the opportunity to generate sales via evergreen funnels.
This means that you can have pages set up and emails doing the selling for you and you CAN see your course sales happening as you’re sipping a margarita on a beach.
Reawaken your creativity
Last but not least – creating a course can be an amazing way to explore your own business in a different light.
If you’re used to doing things all the same way, this can be a fun opportunity to shake things up and see how it goes from there.
I hope this list of reasons to create an online course have inspired you to make that first step!
