Many business owners reach a point where they feel stuck on Instagram. The likes aren’t increasing, follower growth has slowed down, and it feels like you’re putting content out there without seeing much in return. It’s easy to start questioning whether the platform is still worth your time.
I recently found myself reflecting on this topic after experiencing a significant increase in visibility and engagement during a recent launch. What happened wasn’t luck or a random spike in the algorithm. It was the direct result of intentional action and increased consistency.
Today, I want to share exactly what happened, what I learned, and how you can use the same approach to reboot your Instagram presence if things have started to feel stagnant.

My Instagram story
My relationship with Instagram has definitely had its ups and downs.
I joined the platform in 2020, even though I had already been running an online business for several years. Looking back, I honestly have no idea why I avoided Instagram for so long, but for whatever reason, it wasn’t a platform I felt drawn to initially.
When I finally joined, it was during the height of the COVID era. People were spending enormous amounts of time online, and Instagram growth came relatively quickly. I spent hours each day creating graphics, connecting with people, engaging with content, and building relationships.
At the time, Instagram looked very different than it does today. Reels were just emerging, carousel posts were becoming popular, and organic reach felt much easier to achieve.
Within a few months, I had gained around 2,000 followers. The growth felt exciting and almost effortless.
But eventually things changed.
As people returned to normal life, engagement patterns shifted. Growth slowed. Reach became less predictable. Like many creators, I experienced periods where Instagram felt harder than it once had.
Despite that, Instagram has remained one of the most valuable platforms in my business.
It has helped me attract clients, enroll students into my programs, build relationships with other business owners, and establish trust with my audience.
That’s why, despite occasional frustrations, I still believe Instagram is worth showing up for.

Why Instagram still matters for online businesses
One thing I often tell clients is that Instagram isn’t necessarily where most of your sales happen.
For example, most of my sales come through email marketing. That’s where many buying decisions are ultimately made.
However, Instagram plays a different role. Instagram helps build trust.
It allows potential customers to get familiar with your personality, your expertise, your values, and your approach. Through Stories, Reels, posts, and behind-the-scenes content, people get a sense of who you are before they ever join your email list or purchase an offer.
This is especially important for coaches, consultants, service providers, and digital product creators.
People rarely buy from strangers. They buy from people they trust. And Instagram helps create that trust.
How I increased my Instagram reach by 140%
Recently, I was preparing to launch one of my programs and decided to approach Instagram differently.
Normally, I create content week by week. I don’t schedule much in advance and I prefer showing up in real time based on what I’m working on or inspired to share.
This time, I made a different decision. I sat down and planned three full weeks of content ahead of time.
I spent a day creating and scheduling everything. I filmed multiple Reels, created graphic posts, wrote captions, and mapped out the content strategy for the launch period.
The process took time, but the goal was simple:
Show up consistently.
Instead of posting once or twice a week, I increased my activity to approximately five or six posts per week. The content included a mix of Reels and graphic posts, with a stronger focus on Reels because they tend to reach more people and help build trust faster.
Then I let the strategy run. The results were exactly what I expected. Within a month, my content views increased by approximately 140%. I attracted new followers. More people interacted with my content.
And perhaps most importantly, the increased visibility contributed to sales.
The biggest Instagram growth lesson many creators ignore
Here’s what I think many business owners overlook:
Instagram cannot work for you if you’re barely using it.
That might sound obvious, but it’s surprisingly common.
Many people say Instagram isn’t producing results, yet they’re posting once every few weeks, disappearing for long periods, or rarely using Stories. Then they wonder why nothing is happening.
The reality is that Instagram rewards visibility. The more consistently you show up, the more opportunities people have to discover you, engage with you, and remember you.
Growth doesn’t happen because you created one amazing post. It happens because you repeatedly put valuable content in front of people.
Consistency matters more than viral content
Many creators become overly focused on going viral as it can help you to skyrocket your numbers, get more followers, etc. But the problem is that viral content is unpredictable.
Consistency is something you can control.
A business owner who consistently publishes valuable content twice a week for six months will often outperform someone who posts sporadically while chasing viral moments.
Your audience needs repeated exposure to your content:
- They need to see your ideas multiple times.
- They need opportunities to connect with your message.
- They need reminders that you exist.
This is especially true if you’re selling digital products or services that require trust before purchase.
Instagram is not all about the traffic only
One of the biggest misconceptions about Instagram marketing is that its primary purpose is driving website traffic.
While traffic matters, that’s not necessarily Instagram’s greatest strength. Platforms like Pinterest and SEO-focused blogs often generate significantly more website traffic than Instagram.
However, Instagram excels at trust-building.
Someone might discover you through Pinterest. They might join your email list through a blog post. But before buying, they often check your Instagram profile.
They want to see if you’re active. They want to understand your personality. They want reassurance that you’re a real person who knows what they’re talking about.
This is why Instagram remains such a valuable platform, even when direct traffic numbers aren’t particularly impressive.
A practical way to reboot your Instagram growth
If your Instagram feels stagnant, you don’t need to commit to posting seven days a week forever.
Instead, treat it as an experiment. Choose a two-to-four-week period.
During that time:
- Increase your posting frequency
- Show up consistently in Stories
- Create more Reels
- Share behind-the-scenes content
- Engage with your audience regularly
Then evaluate the results.
Look at profile visits, reach, engagement, follower growth, leads, and sales. Gather actual data instead of assuming Instagram isn’t working.
You might be surprised by what happens when you simply increase your visibility.
Be honest about your current effort
This is probably the most important takeaway from this entire conversation.
Before deciding that Instagram isn’t working, ask yourself:
Are you actually showing up?
If you’re posting once a week, disappearing for days at a time, and rarely using Stories, it’s difficult to accurately judge the platform’s potential.
Instagram is a content platform. Its purpose is to distribute content. If you want visibility, you have to give the platform something to distribute.
That doesn’t mean creating content all day every day.
But it does mean committing to a level of consistency that gives your audience opportunities to find you.
Final thoughts
If your Instagram growth has stalled, don’t assume the platform is broken.
Don’t assume the algorithm hates you. And don’t assume that everyone else has some secret strategy that you’re missing.
Sometimes the answer is much simpler: show up more, do it more consistently and add more intention to it.
The month I increased my posting frequency and committed to consistent visibility, my content views increased by 140%. The growth wasn’t accidental. It was the result of giving Instagram more opportunities to put my content in front of people.
If your account feels stagnant right now, consider running your own experiment.
Commit to a few weeks of consistent content creation, track the results, and see what happens.
You might discover that the growth you’re looking for isn’t hidden in a new strategy.
It might simply be waiting on the other side of consistency.
