How to use Kajabi: the most popular Kajabi mistakes fixed

Either you’re an active Kajabi user or have been just thinking about getting started, this guide will introduce you to some of the key elements on how to use Kajabi and how to stay away from some of the most popular Kajabi mistakes.

What is Kajabi?

Kajabi is an all-in-one business setup platform where you can set up and manage most of your online business needs like:

  • Have a website and separate landing pages
  • Write and publish a blog
  • Set up and sell digital products and coaching offers
  • Send emails and set up email sequences
  • Have thorough backend funnels
  • Host an online community

Kajabi is currently widely popular especially amongst online coaches but not only. It can serve well for any niche and any type of offers as they provide a very diverse setup options.

Is Kajabi a good fit for starters?

It depends and the answer literally could go either way.

Kajabi is a good fit for starters if you don’t have any existing online presence or you’re starting a new business. As Kajabi is an all-in-one business platform, this means that it will provide you all the necessary elements to set up your online business space.

If you’ve already been in the business for a while, you might already have some of the existing setups in which case using Kajabi can be either redundant or the move will just take a lot of your time. Additonally, you can use it for your digital products only but then it might not be worth the price and other platforms could be a better fit.

On the other hand, there are plenty of other platforms that are a lot easier to use than Kajabi, especially if you consider yourself a started in the online world and steer away from any overcomplicated tech setups.

If you intend to set up and manage your platform yourself, you may want to consider some of the other Digital Product Platforms!

Who Kajabi is ideal for?

Kajabi will be ideal for you if you are an online coach, a consultant, provide any type of 1:1 services, are a freelancer or artist and you want to establish your online presence via having a website, building landing pages and selling products.

Kajabi is the best fit if you want to have a website with the capacity to sell digital products and gather email leads. It will NOT be the best if you are searching for only one of these to be covered – other more focused softwares might be the best idea then.

Many of Kajabi users are into niches like online coaching, digital marketing, nutrition, lifestyle coaching, wellbeing, fitness, interior design – but it’s not limited to any niche and you can use it if you find the features a good fit for you.

As I work with aspiring course creators, they often choose Kajabi as a good all-in-one option.

How to use Kajabi?

One of the biggest challenges of getting started on Kajabi is the actual “getting started” part as the platform can be rather complicated, especially if you have little to no previous tech setup experience.

While you can find plenty of various guides online and within Kajabi itself, I want to focus on some important elements of the setup – the first things to consider and elements that often will be overlooked.

The most popular Kajabi mistakes FIXED

Social media icon setup

An often overlooked but important element on Kajabi pages is the social media icons.

Once a new page is created, in most cases, there will automatically be social media icons added, either on the footer or elsewhere, where the page layout supports them.

You have to make sure to always check the icons and add YOUR social media hands, otherway they will automatically stay linked to Kajabi socials.

This will also apply to any other pages besides the website and landing pages – like Checkout.

Offer checkout setup

One of the most popular Kajabi mistakes is overlooking the Checkout design feature.

Once you create a new product, you need to set up the price and that is done in Sales > Offers. However, the next step – the most overlooked part of this setup – is the actual Checkout design.

After you have set the key features for the offer like the price, the description and the featured image, you have to proceed to “Edit Checkout” page.

Many creators end up leaving the Kajabi branding when you have a chance to fully update the page and align it with your branding:

  • Update the colors and fonts used on the page
  • Add a banner on top of the page
  • Adjust the description visible in the Checkout
  • Add Order Bump

Welcome email sequences

Another popular Kajabi mistake and an often overlooked element in the setup is the welcome email sequence – or in general, a follow-up sequence after joining a product.

Once you set up a new Offer for a Product, you need to scroll down on the main setup page and explore Post-purchase setup.

The base post-purchase email will be set up to be Default Email – you can leave this way.

But then if you want to add an Automated Email Sequence to either welcome your audience into the product or upsell another offer, you’ll have to do the following:

  1. Go to Marketing > Email Campaigns to set up a new Sequence.
  2. Then, once the new Sequence is set up, you’ll want to add it into Automation. For that, go to Marketing > Automation and set up a new automation, based on the product. For example, “When Offer is purchased > Then Subscribe to an Email Sequence”
  3. Now when you go into Offer setup, the Automation will show up there

This can be a bit of a quest to do as there are several different elements to set up. But once you get the hang of it, it will be a lot easier to make it happen for all your offers.
