Kajabi is a great fit for you if you’re starting from zero or want to move your business into a platform where all of the business elements can be managed in one place.
Teachable will be a better fit if you seek course specific platform for your digital programs, coaching or membership. In this case, you might already have your own website, email marketing platform and/or other elements already set up.
Kajabi provides features like:

- Full funnel building functionality
- Community space
- Course and digital product setup

- Setting up and selling digital products specifically (I’d suggest going for Thinkific instead of Teachable though!)
- If you have an existing website and you just need the learning management system for your products

Teachable definitely is simpler to start with and overall backend setup is less complex than Kajabi. It makes sense though! With fewer features, it’s simpler and faster to get it all going.
I’d suggest using Teachable (or Thinkific!) if you’re exploring your options and want to see where this journey of course creation or coaching can take you.
The upfront investment will be lower, it will be easier to learn all the key details to set up yourself, there’s more of a playful vibe, without the need to invest a lot of time in understanding the setup.
The key downsides to consider for Kajabi vs Teachable
As I have already worked through the key pros and cons, I’ve mentioned these details here and there but here will be some of the key downsides of each of the platforms to consider!
For Kajabi…
- Higher investment
- Bigger learning curve

- Not all-in-one and will require some other connections to be fully functional (like email marketing and potentially a website)

I’d go for Teachable or Thinkific if you are looking for a quick start, want to have course focused platform and potentially already have other setup done or just seek lower price point to get started with.
You absolutely CAN run a business without the website, only with a platform like Teachable. Yes, it will not be as versatile but it will do the job alright.
I’d opt-in for Kajabi if you seek a more thorough solution and already know that you will need more than either of the LMS platforms are offering.

Is Teachable the best option for course specific platform?
Teachable was my first learning management system I used for my online courses.
I was on the platform for 7 years and really enjoyed it but for various reasons I decided to leave it for Circle.
Now, their close competitor Thinkific have come up with several impressive updates and as Teachable’s price have increased, I actually prefer the offer of Thinkific A LOT more than Teachable.
