Why perfectionism is killing your offers

Why perfectionism is killing your offers

Creating digital products can be a great way to generate additional income. But how to not get stuck in the loop of perfectionism, always spending more time to get your offers out there? Let’s explore the reasosn why perfectionism is killing your offers and what to do about it.

Today, I’m coming to you from a place of pure chaos. Literally. I woke up and decided to reorganize my entire living room, and three hours later, I was deep in the process with no end in sight.

But here’s the thing – stepping away from my laptop and doing something completely different opened up my mind to new ideas. When you break out of your usual routine, especially in business, it creates space for fresh insights and clarity.

That’s exactly what happened to me. In the middle of my organizing spree, I sat down to jot down some notes, and that simple act triggered a flood of new ideas. One of those ideas? How important it is to simplify product creation and stop letting perfectionism hold you back.

Why perfectionism is killing your offers

As I was working on content for my upcoming offer, I focused on one of the biggest roadblocks for course creators – video creation.

Recording videos for your course can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re new to it.

I’ve worked with course creators for over a decade, and I’ve seen everything. Some people go all out – renting studios, hiring videographers, and bringing in a full production team.

Others take a scrappy, no-frills approach, recording in their closets for the best acoustics.

And then there are those who keep it as simple as a Google document with embedded video links – and they still make sales.

The point? There is no single “perfect” way to create a digital product. The need for everything to be high-end and polished often leads to procrastination, delays, and frustration.

Getting it done is more important than perfecting it

It’s easy to fall into the perfectionism trap when creating your first course or digital product. You might find yourself thinking:

  • “I need a better microphone before I can record.”
  • “My camera isn’t good enough.”
  • “I should buy extra lighting to make my videos look more professional.”
  • “Maybe I should reshoot this… just one more time.”

This cycle never ends because there’s always something “better” you could do.

But do you actually need to? The answer is no.

Yes, outsourcing or investing in quality equipment can be helpful – but it’s not a necessity. The most important thing is to get your offer out there and refine it based on real feedback, not hypothetical perfection.

The only way how you can truly prove the concept of your idea is by getting it out there.

SIMPLIFYING is the answer (almost always!)

The answer to getting stuck in the perfection loop? SIMPLIFY.

Look at your product and path to creating it in the most clean, straighforward way you can.

One of the biggest advantages of keeping your product creation process simple is the freedom it gives you. When you create your course in a way that allows you to easily update, tweak, and improve it over time, you stay in control.

Imagine this: You spent months crafting the “perfect” course in a professional studio with a videographer. Then, a few months later, you realize you need to add or change something based on student feedback. Now, you have to rent the studio again, hire the videographer again, and go through the entire process all over.

Meanwhile, someone who recorded their content with a basic setup at home can update and re-upload their materials in a single afternoon.

Some practical ideas to work with:

  • Instead of investing in Kajabi right away, consider if you can start with a free platform that will give you a chance to set up and start selling your product in one evening. My personal favorite for that is Payhip – they have an unlimited completely free plan.
  • Instead of buying high-end equipment for your course recording, investing hundreds of dollars upfront, consider what you already have and how can you get started with the lowest possible investment. My suggestion? The only thing you really need to record a good course is a MICROPHONE. And $50 will do just as well as more expensive option.
  • Use existing Canva slide templates to design your slides instead of investing in expensive templates or outsourcing the designing. In Your Course Creation Membership, I have shared several guides that will teach you exactly how to design good-looking and brand-aligned slides on your own with little to no investment.

Start simple, scale later

If you’re just getting started, focus on what’s easiest and most sustainable for you. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars or months in production. Instead, aim for the simplest, most seamless creation process possible.

Once your offer is live, you’ll have real-world insights into what works, what doesn’t, and what can be improved. At that point, if you want to invest in upgrading your materials, you can – but you’ll be doing it with confidence, knowing exactly where to focus your energy.

Students these days DON’T seek perfection, they appreciate rough, valuable content, no matter how it’s delivered. You can always pretty it up later down the line.

Plan, create and launch an online course with Your Course Creation Membership

Your Course Creation Membership for digital product creators is the space to do just that – learn to create with ease, embrace the process and do it YOUR WAY.
